The Board meets one evening per month (Sept-June) at the Library’s Main Branch and work between meetings is encouraged, depending on need/interest
The Friends of the Cambridge Public Library is a volunteer-driven community membership organization open to all individuals and families who wish to participate in the ongoing celebration and support of the Cambridge Public Library, its six neighborhood branches located throughout the City of Cambridge, and the diverse population that it serves. We don't ask for donations but rather memberships (any amount is welcome) to be used as to support activities such as Summer Reading Programs, funds for the new STEAM project, museum passes, 3D technology, a laptop kiosk, a free family summer concert, speakers, and others. Our biggest fundraiser/community event is the biennial Secret Garden Tour.
The Friends is managed by an active, all-volunteer Board of Directors, which seeks 3-5 new members to serve at least one 10-month term (Sept-June).
The Board seeks to be representative of the community it serves. People of diverse backgrounds and with varied experiences are especially encouraged to apply. Skills and interests currently needed on the Board include: strategic planning, event planning, fundraising, community outreach, nonprofit law, and graphic design. However all applicants with enthusiasm for our mission and purpose are encouraged to apply.
Prior board experience or financial commitment to the Friends is NOT required.
